  1. Some hints for new (and old) users of the MiniBBS system.
  2. You might want to capture or download this file and keep it close
  3. in case you need some help while using the MiniBBS system.

  5. As soon as you have logged in to the system you will get a list
  6. of unread messages in the conferences you are a member of.
  7.  
  8. The Command Prompt

  10. Then the command prompt will appear and the system will wait for
  11. your command.  The prompt contains some useful information:
  12.  
  13. (19:43)(00) Main: _
  14.     \     \    \
  15.      \      \    Name of the current conference
  16.       \    Minutes since login (is updated each minute)
  17.        Current local time (is updated each minute)
  18.  
  19. To enter a command simply press the key for that command.
  20. On MiniBBS you don't have to press (RETURN) after the command.
  21. I'll talk more about some og the most used commands in MiniBBS.
  22. For a full list of the commands type a '?' or 'H' (for Help).

  24. Read Next Message

  26. The easiest command in MiniBBS is the 'Read next message' command.
  27. Simply pressing (RETURN) on the command prompt will display the
  28. next unread message.  If there is no more messages in the current
  29. conference you will get to the next conference with unread messages
  30. ny pressing (RETURN) once more and so on until no unread messages.

  34. If there is a lot of unread messages you may wish to skip some
  35. messages.  If you type 'Y' you will get a question:

  39. This a standard MiniBBS "choose-box" (like the ST Alert-box :-)
  40. In this case you can type 'N' to read only messages adressed 
  41. to you, or 'Y' to read messages to you and to 'ALL'.  The last
  42. option in this kind of question is default if you press (RETURN).

  46. When you have read a message you might want to write an answer.
  47. If you type 'R' you will see this question on your screen:

  51. If you want to reply to the last message you read your can press
  52. (RETURN), else you have to enter the number of the message.

  54. The '_' characters after the question tells you how many characters
  55. you may enter.    If you can't see them you should reconfigure your
  56. communication program so that BACKSPACE is send as ONLY BACKSPACE
  57. (non-destructive) and NOT as BACKSPACE SPACE BACKSPACE (destructive)

  61. Some commands needs more input (like a name or a filename).
  62. Lets try the (E)nter message command and see what happends:

  66. In addition to entering messages to all users registered on the
  67. system your are calling you migth enter a message to 'ALL' or a
  68. message to the 'SYSOP' that is running the system.

  70. When you have selected the username you will be prompted for
  71. the subject in the same way (a blank subject will abort).

  73. If you choose a to countinue writing a message you will get
  74. an "alert-box" asking if you want it to be a private message.
  75. Private messages can only be read by you, the one you are writing
  76. to and the SYSOP on the system.  NO ONE ELSE CAN READ IT !

  78. When you have made you choice the editor will appear.  If you
  79. are using VT52 or VT100 emulation it will behave like a small
  80. text editor and you can use the cursor keys on your keyboard.
  81. When you are finished writing save your message with (CTRL-Z).
  82. You can abort your message (and trash it) with (CTRL-Q)(Y).

  86. At this time might want to become a member of more conferences.
  87. To do this you must use the (J)oin command:

  91. To get a list of conferences type '?'.    When you have found a name
  92. type it in and press (RETURN).    Lets say you joined the SoftWare
  93. conference.  You will get a unread messages overview and...
